The choice of having wanted to write this article was not accidental, in fact I really wanted to write it today, February 29, 2020, a date that does not happen every year. Unlike the film, the game on the Commodore 64 went unnoticed both for its slightly lackluster graphics and for its playability. Personally, when I got it back I didn’t remember what should be done and I had to go over the longplay on the net several times to get something clearer. In the end I realized that this title also deserved to be part of my game repertoire together with the respective DVD box set. We are talking about the game based on the colossal homonymous “Back to the Future”, a 1985 film directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Michael J. Fox and Christofer Lloyd which received the Oscar award at the best editing.
Let’s start our adventure immediately. In the Hill Valley school, George Mcfly, the future father of Marty Mcfly still a student, will be one of the characters with whom we will have to interact and who will also be the key to getting us to the bottom of the game. Four other characters also roam the city, their parents, Doc and Biff Tannen.
During the exploration that takes place from right to left on fixed screens with various environments, we should obtain the necessary objects to achieve the objectives of the game, for example in the school and in the bar, you will have to look for an object in each room, the guitar for play a piece in front of the beautiful Loraine so that she can follow you and thus combine the meeting with George, the coffee at the bar to leave the two in the middle of the mutual feeling and many other things. The work will not be very easy as we will be constantly followed by the neighborhood bully, Biff, who will continuously follow us to throw his bullshit and thus slowing down the game. We will have a certain time limit to achieve all the objectives, reach the DOC and return to our day. To speed up the move, we will have our beloved skateboard available.
Marty’s Health in the lower left is marked by his face and the more it disappears the more our future is falling apart. While the box at the bottom right represents the progress of the game and when the family photo is complete, you just need to get the yellow cosmonaut suit and reach the doc! I will assure you of numerous attempts, and it will take a photographic memory to remember where, how and when to take action to perform all the main tasks. Marty must procure and use five items appropriately, but she can carry one at a time, indicated by the respective icon at the top of the screen: poetry book, coffee, protective suit, guitar and skateboard. If activated against a character, each object can have an effect such as making it stop or following Marty. The aim is to spend as much time as possible together with the two parents. Once the photos are recomposed Marty must organize the return trip; in case of total disappearance of the photos there is instead the defeat.

Now I want to challenge you to do one thing: Try it, or rather play without music, then you will tell me the difference! I will still be part and lover of the music of the Commodore 64 but this rock pop theme of the film converted into eight bits deserves! Music as well as a source of companionship will be motivating and stimulating during your hours of play. All this with a significant signature, that is Electric Dreams Software! Download the game and have fun but not before seeing the movie!
In the near future !!!!!
Having said that, I wish you lots of fun if you intend to play it or brush it up by feeling nostalgic for those carefree years and pure fun.
